ACA Owner Sue Schaefer

Founder and CEO

Sue Schaefer is the founder of Academic Coaching Associates (ACA). She started ACA in 2008 with a vision of helping students succeed who underperform in school because of executive function difficulties.

Personally, Sue struggled in school — missed assignments, performed poorly on tests even after studying for hours, and lost focus in class. In college, things did not improve. She worked harder than she ever had in her life, and, still, her grades were below average.

Realizing she could not do this on her own, she finally reached out for help. Through this self-advocacy, she learned to manage her time better, found an organizational system that worked, and developed good study strategies. Her grades went up and so did her confidence.  It was then that she discovered her love of learning. After earning two master’s degrees in education, she taught as a tenured classroom teacher.

Sue is proud to be a pioneer in the field of academic and executive function coaching. Her quest has remained steady over the years, to help struggling students who find school frustrating and difficult, like she did, succeed and thrive in an academic setting.

As a sought-after speaker, Sue has done a multitude of speaking engagements on various topics in executive function. You can read her featured article and how she started ACA by clicking here.
