Marlene

Marlene Fitzmaurice, M.Ed.

Middle and High School Coach

Marlene is an experienced educator with three decades of work experience in public education.  Throughout her career, she has remained focused on helping students identify the strategies and tools that align with their individual learning profiles. She approaches education with the belief that effective teaching respects each student’s unique strengths, challenges, and goals.

Marlene earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northeastern University before completing both a Master’s degree in Education (English) and an Education Specialist degree in Special Education at The George Washington University. While at GW, she also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Return Peace Corps Volunteer Program.

She has taught at the high school, middle school, and elementary levels, with most of her experience primarily focused in secondary education. In a previous leadership role, Marlene served as Chairperson for the Committee on Special Education in Chappaqua, New York, where she oversaw programming for two middle schools and coordinated services for all out of district placements.

The foundation of Marlene’s work is advocacy, supporting students in understanding their learning profiles, developing self awareness, and gaining the skills to advocate for their needs both in and beyond the classroom. She also works with students to explore career interests and prepare for post-secondary education or training.

Outside of work, Marlene enjoys spending time outdoors, including gardening, boating, relaxing at the beach, and working on home improvement projects. She has completed four marathons and begins most mornings with a workout. She is also the proud parent of two adult sons, both former college lacrosse players who now work in Finance.

Marlene is especially excited to support students in building their executive functioning skills, an essential step toward confident, independent learning for life.
